The collection consists of papers and videocassettes from the oral history and documentary projects of Maria Brooks. The collection is divided into two series. The first series consists of the catalog and index of the Alaska Women's Oral History Project (1983). The second series consists of papers an videocassettes from the making of the documentary, "The Odyssey of Captain Healy." The papers include the production script with credit roll, correspondence, reviews, articles, and interview transcripts. The videocassettes include a tape copy of the completed documentary, duplicate tapes of the interviews, and master tapes of the interviews (45 total videocassettes).

Maria Brooks writes, directs, and produces historical documentaries for Waterfront Soundings Productions in Oakland, California. She has also been active in producing oral history projects. In 1983, Brooks compiled the Alaska Women's Oral History Collection, which includes audio recordings and transcripts of interviews.
